“Gutter cleaning” can mean two different things. One person means removing leaves from inside the gutter; another means washing dirt off the outside. Being specific at the enquiry stage avoids an incomplete quote.
Which service do you need?

Gutter clearing: the inside
Clearing concerns the channel that carries rainwater. Leaves, moss and other debris can collect there and obstruct drainage. Tell the cleaner where you have noticed overflowing and about any known damage. A blockage is one possible cause of overflowing, but cleaning does not repair broken joints or correct every drainage problem.
Roofline cleaning: the visible surfaces
Fascia boards run along the roof edge and soffits sit beneath the overhang. Washing those surfaces addresses visible dirt and growth. The outside faces of gutters may also be part of an exterior wash if agreed, but that does not automatically include clearing their insides.
Which should you ask for?
If water spills over the gutter, describe that problem first. If the concern is a dirty-looking roofline, ask about an exterior wash. If both apply, request both jobs in the quotation. Include the height of the building and tell the cleaner about extensions, conservatories or restricted access below the gutter.
What to photograph
A picture of the whole elevation helps show access and gutter length. You can also send a closer view of visible staining or a problem section, taken from a safe position on the ground. There is no need to climb up to gather information for a quote.
