CLEANING GUIDES

What to prepare before an exterior clean

A practical checklist for a window, roofline, cladding or conservatory cleaning visit.

A little information before a visit helps everyone agree what the job involves. Start with the parts of the property you want cleaned and the result you are hoping for. A whole-building photograph and a close-up of the area can be useful together.

Your quick preparation checklist

List the surfaces

Make clear whether the enquiry is for window glass, frames, roofline surfaces, a conservatory roof or cladding. Mention the materials if you know them. For solar panels or specialist coatings, share any manufacturer care guidance you have rather than assuming every surface can be treated alike.

Explain access

Describe locked gates, narrow paths, parking restrictions and areas only accessible through the building. For commercial properties, include opening times and busy entrances. Agree access arrangements before the appointment rather than leaving them until arrival.

Point out existing problems

Let the cleaner know about loose fittings, flaking paint, cracked panels, leaks or failed glazing seals. Cleaning is different from repair. Flagging these issues helps make the scope and limitations clear from the start.

Prepare the area

Once the visit is agreed, follow the preparation instructions you receive. Discuss pets, movable garden furniture and delicate items near the work area. Ask which windows and doors need to be closed and whether you need to be present.

Check the quotation

Confirm which surfaces are included, whether the work is one-off or recurring, and what access arrangements apply. If you want extra work, such as gutter clearing alongside a conservatory roof clean, raise it before the visit.
